HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE BEGINS AUG. 7: Any high school girls interested in playing volleyball should plan to attend practice on Monday, Aug. 7. Practice is from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the high school gym. Players need a current physical and proof of insurance. Players should also bring a water bottle. DISTRICT BASEBALL UPDATE: The District Baseball game scheduled for today, Tuesday, May 16, has been moved to Wednesday, May 17, 6:00pm at Lamar.
HS TRACK UPDATE: Southwest went 0 for 3 at track sectional at College of the Ozarks Saturday. Robert Humphries ran a 4:43 (5-second PR) in the mile and was eliminated with a 5th place finish less than a second behind the 4th place runner. Robert finished 7th in the 800 and the 4x800 relay team of Cally Bowyer, Kali Jones, Alexis Borwick and Juliauna placed 6th and were eliminated. It was a great season, thank you for all your support, and congratulate the kids if you see them. They worked hard.
BASEBALL UPDATES: Monday (May 8): Southwest wins 11-1 against Verona. Garcia 4IP 5K 0ER 1H, Barnes 2IP 1H 2K, Paulsen 2-3 HR 2RBI, Meek 2RBI, Morgan 2-3 2RBI, Corwin 2-3 RBI 2SB, Ayer 3BB 4SB RBI. Jv won 9-0. Wednesday (May 10): SW beats Spokane 3-1. Morgan 3IP W 5K, Corwin 2IP 4K, Pippin 1-2 2B 2RBI, Paulsen 1-3, Gregory 1-3. Jv won 6-0. Our JV pitchers threw back to back no hitters to end the JV season. JV went 10-6-1 on the year! We are back in action Tuesday (May 16) for the District semifinal game against East Newton in Lamar!

ROBERT HUMPHRIES, 4x800 GIRLS RELAY ADVANCE TO TRACK SECTIONAL: Southwest distance runner Robert Humphries advanced to Sectional in the 800 meters and mile at the Class 2 District at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. Humphries, a junior, ran the mile in 4:56.17, and the 800 in 2:10.62. The Trojans also qualified their 4x800 girls relay. The team of Senior Cally Bowyer, Juniors Alexis Borwick and Juliauna Sierra, and Sophomore Kali Jones were fourth in 11:58.01. Humphries and relay team will run the Class 2 Sectional at College of the Ozarks this weekend. Other District track highlights: ** Cally was 6th in the open 800 in 2:59.17; ** Freshman Vic Tellez was 11th in the mile in 5:26.75; ** Freshman Tobi Smith was 12th in the two-mile in 13:57.51; ** Junior Kameron Kelley was 12th in the 800 in 2:31.66; **

HUMPHRIES LEADS TROJANS TRACK @ CONFERENCE MEET: Junior Robert Humphries finished second in the 800 meters (2:10.51) and the mile (4:51.60) and fourth in the 2-mile (11:18.33) and anchored a 3rd-place finish in the 4x400 relay Monday to lead Southwest at the SWCL Conference track meet in windy conditions at Blue Eye High School. Other highlights: ** Freshman Ivan Suchowski scored in the long jump (6th), and both hurdle events (5th and 6th); ** Senior Rachel Willer was second in the discus; ** Senior Cally Bowyer was 4th in the 400 and 5th in the 800; ** Sophomore Kali Jones was 6th in the 800; ** Both Bowyer and Jones were also part of the 3rd-place 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. ** Seniors Traven Walkingstick, Kaydee Gabbard, Rachel, and Cally were honored in their final regular season meet. Next: Class 2 District 6 is Saturday at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
JH TRACK UPDATE: The JH Track Team had a strong finish to their season at Blue Eye for the SWCL Conference Meet. Everyone medaled in at least one event! Please congratulate them on a great season when you see them. The 7th grade girls took 2nd overall: ** Sidney Roe finished 1st in both the mile and 800m runs and 3rd in the long jump; ** Holly Johnson finished 2nd in the mile, 6th in the 800m and 3rd in the triple jump; ** Addison Palmer finished 1st in both the 100m and 200m runs; ** Gracelyn Sanders finished 4th in the 400m and 7th in the 100m; ** The girls relay team (Sidney, Addison, Holly, & Gracelyn) finished 3rd in the 4x400. The 7th grade boys team finished 3rd overall: ** Andy Day finished 2nd in shot put and 3rd in discus; ** Ian Quick finished 1st in discus and 3rd in shot put; ** Ky Miles finished 4th in discus and 6th in shot put; ** Easton Tinsley finished 7th in the 100m and long jump; ** The Relay Team (Andy, Ian, Ky & Easton) took 1st in the 4x200 and 2nd in the 4x100. HUMPHRIES SCORES IN 3 EVENTS @ MONETT INVITATIONAL TRACK MEET: Junior Robert Humphries finished 3rd in the mile (4:48.29), 4th in the 800 (2:09.71), and 5th in the 2-mile (10:53.77) and PRd in all three events Tuesday at the Monett Invitational Track Meet. A total of 28 teams participated in the event. Other Trojan and Lady Trojan highlights included:** the 4x800 girls relay team finished 4th (11:46.57) and PRd by 13 seconds with Senior Cally Bowyer running a 2:43 split; ** Junior Ezra Sprowes finished fifth and PR'd in the 400 in 54.70 seconds; ** Sophomore Vivica Villegas PRd (6:46.64) by 29 seconds in the mile; ** Freshmen Tobi Smith (13:18.06)) and Ivan Suchowski PRd (49.4) in the 2-mile and the 300 hurdles; ** Milers Victor Tellez (5:26) and Kameron Kelley (5:48) both PR'd in the mile; ** Cally (4th) and Kali Jones (7th) scored in the 800 at 2:49 (PR) and 2:52. The team returns to action Thursday at Mount Vernon.
FFA STATE RESULTS: Thursday and Friday of last week the Southwest FFA represented our school at the State FFA Contest at Columbia.
